Hopes dashed, Addis outcome disappoints

There is no one-size, fits-all solution for financing for development, remarked Mr. Wu Hong Bo, United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs and Secretary-General of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD3), in the opening plenary of the CSO FfD Forum held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia ahead of the official conference. FfD3 thus aims to produce a comprehensive financing framework with a basket of financing options for sustainable development, Mr. Wu added.

The Addis Action Agenda: An Agenda without Action?

As the first of three major development conferences this year, the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD3) in Addis Ababa is expected to play a fundamental role in laying the financial groundwork both for the post-2015 development agenda and the climate negotiations. With the current state of negotiations, however, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda (Addis Action Agenda) signals a retreat of ambition and is far from upholding Monterrey and Doha, and much less in delivering any adequate response to the needs of the poor and the marginalized.

Financing Development Justice: How can FfD3 deliver for rights and sustainability?

Development justice is an alternative framework that aims to redistribute resources, wealth, power and opportunities to all human beings equitably. It compels us to dismantle the existing systems that channel resources and wealth from developing countries to wealthy countries and to develop economies that enable dignified lives, accommodate needs and facilitate capabilities, employment and livelihoods available to all.
