Request for Organizational Endorsements by August 7, 2015

In September of this year, Heads of States and Governments will gather at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York City to agree on a new set of “Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs) and a “global plan of action for people, planet and prosperity”. The latest draft of this declaration which promises to “transform our world” by 2030 and ensure that “no one will be left behind” in the process has just been released today.

Civil society groups warn against ‘outsourcing’ of government responsibilities for sustainable development

A joint meeting of the intergovernmental negotiations on the preparatory processes of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD) and the post-2015 Development Agenda was held recently at the UN headquarters in New York. The discussions that took place from April 21 to 24 centered on the substance as well as the relationship between the FFD agenda and the intergovernmental negotiations on the Means of Implementation (MOI) for the post-2015 development agenda.

The Post-2015 Corporate Development Agenda: Expanding Corporate Power in the Name of Sustainable Development

This new paper, “The Post-2015 Corporate Development Agenda: Expanding Corporate Power in the Name of Sustainable Development” discusses how the corporate sector has long been trying to position itself front and center of the post-2015 development agenda by staking a claim at three levels: First, by setting goals that would suit their priorities for expansion; second, by claiming a primary role in mobilizing the means for implementing these goals; third, by shaping the governance framework that would be set-up to ensure progress in this agenda.

Climate finance: for transformative change (?)

Five years from the next big ‘deadline on climate’, world leaders are still negotiating over deadlines. They are nowhere near agreeing on, much less mobilizing, even a basic roadmap for ensuring the fulfillment of commitments made by northern countries to the global south. This includes bankrolling US $100 billion of climate finance to developing countries every year by 2020, an amount climate scientists estimate is itself barely enough to meet the challenges we face.

CSOs appeal for robust climate action goals in post-2015 agenda

Nearly 180 civil society organizations (CSO) worldwide appealed recently to a United Nations working group to ensure that climate change action be strongly represented among the goals and targets of the post-2015 development framework, also referred to as Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), now being discussed among UN bodies and processes.
