IBON International, in partnership with Swedish Society for Nature Conservation, invite you to “Delivering Real Change: Scaling Up People-powered, Climate Change Initiatives through Global Public Climate Finance”, a parallel session at the Stockholm Civil Society Days on 19 November, 15:00-16:00 at Room Oasen, Sida Headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden.
The session aims to:
- Showcase a people-powered, climate mitigation/adaptation practice from the grassroots level and highlight its potential to contribute in achieving resiliency, self- sufficiency, and sustainable and inclusive development
- Garner support for this grassroots initiative from a broad range of stakeholders: movements, civil society, policy makers, and development partners
- Call for rechannelling public climate finance sources away from multinational firms and banks to grassroots-led, climate change initiatives
Amid the worsening climate crisis, peoples’ movements and grassroots organizations have come up with effective innovations and actions that address the needs of communities. The event will highlight the crucial role of grassroots-led initiatives in climate mitigation and adaptation. It will articulate the importance of grassroots efforts, and that public climate finance must be re-directed to their initiatives to actualize their potential and maximize their value.
The speakers in the event will be Amy Padilla, executive director of IBON International; Ulrika Åkersson, lead specialist on Environment and Climate Change of Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida); Mattias Frumerie, director of Climate Finance/Diplomacy at Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs; and Kurniawan Sabar, director of Institute for National and Democracy Studies. The session will be moderated by Anna Östergen, policy adviser for Climate at Swedish Society for Nature Conservation.
