Social movements and civil society are marking July 22 as the Global Day of Action against the IMF-World Bank. It coincides with the 80th anniversary of the 1944 Bretton Woods Conference that established the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. For social movements, 80 years of the IMF-World Bank mean the exploitation and the plunder of the Global South through debt, neoliberal conditionalities, and destructive projects.
We call on social movements and civil society to join the global action to stand against the IMF-World Bank’s:
- Impunity for economic crimes against the people and planet
- Support for imperialist wars, dictatorships, and despotic regimes
- Reinforcement of a system of plunder and poverty
How to participate?
- Organize protest actions in front of country offices of the IMF or World Bank, US embassies, or ministries of finance in your countries.
- Hold educational discussions about the impacts and culpability of the IMF-World Bank to the problems in your country, community, or sector, as well as the role these institutions play in the dominant economic system.
- Amplify peoples’ struggles against the IMF-World Bank. Contribute to The People’s History of the IMF-World Bank and A Critical Feminist Global Perspective to the 80th Anniversary of the Bretton Woods Institutions.
