For the Global South, the IMF-World Bank mean plunder. In the Philippines, these institutions’ imperialist interests are closely tied with dictator’s son and current president Bong Bong Marcos’s policies — from austerity or budget cuts in health, social assistance, agriculture and other crucial sectors, World Bank-funded market-assisted land reform, to using renewable energy projects and the climate agenda to displace peasant and Indigenous Peoples’ communities and facilitate land grabs.

As the IMF-World Bank hold their Annual Meetings in Washington, DC, on 21-26 October, people’s organisations and civil society in the Philippines will organise an educational and cultural event to counter the IMF-World Bank’s narratives and reject their dominant influence over Southern economies.
