Less than two years since the Israeli occupation’s siege of Gaza on October 7, 2023, IBON International calls to end the genocide. We decry the United States’ (US) military and political support to the Israeli occupation, and its proposals to permanently displace Palestinians and take over Gaza.
The US-backed Israeli occupation’s genocide in Gaza has killed at least 55,000 Palestinians. Academics say that the death tolls from conflicts are likely “three to 15 times the number of direct deaths” from war impacts such as starvation, disease, lack of access to basic necessities, and destroyed infrastructure. [1]
We oppose US-Israel’s warmongering in the region. Today, Israel has bombed 100 locations in Iran in the name of targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, killing civilians and senior officials. Iran has launched 100 drones to Israel.
The US maintains Israel as its stronghold in the resource-rich West Asia and North Africa region, providing USD 310 billion in military and economic aid since 1946. Between October 2023-October 2024, the US provided USD 17.9 billion in military aid to the Israeli occupation committing genocide in Gaza. Under the second term of US President Donald Trump, the US has made USD 12 billion in arms sales to Israel since January 2025.
We express solidarity and support to social movements across the world who are mobilising to provide immediate humanitarian relief to Gaza, and taking a stand against Israeli genocide and occupation. We condemn Israel’s interception of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla and join calls for the protection of the 12 volunteer activists who were part of the initiative. Ten of the activists have been deported, including 22-year-old Swedish youth climate activist Greta Thunberg, and French member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan. Two of the activists, French nationals Pascal Maurieras and Yanis Mhamdi, remain in detention.
On June 9, the same day that Israel intercepted the flotilla, activists from Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, and Morocco launched the Soumoud Convoy from Tunis as part of efforts to provide relief to Gaza. The aid convoy has reached Libya and is awaiting approval from Egyptian authorities to cross the Rafah border to Gaza. Conscientious citizens across the world are organising the Global March to Gaza with the same aims. Dozens of activists participating in the march have been deported by Egyptian authorities. Workers, such as in France and Italy, have organised strikes and refused to load arm shipments bound for Israel.
These are crucial efforts to create international pressure to end the genocide and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza amid the failure of states and the multilateral governance to uphold their duty to Palestinians and hold Israel accountable for violations of people’s rights and international humanitarian law.
We condemn the US and Israel’s weaponisation of aid through their bogus initiative Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. Israel has completely blocked supplies into Gaza, endangering the lives of 2.1 million Palestinians, after violating the ceasefire deal with Hamas-led Palestinian militants last March. The UN and several humanitarian organisations have criticised the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation for being military-led, lacking Palestinian involvement, and violating basic humanitarian principles. More than 130 people have been killed and more than 700 wounded by Israeli forces in aid sites operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation since it began operating on May 27. [2]
We demand states to uphold international law and international humanitarian law, and hold the US and Israel accountable. We grieve with the Palestinian people, and call on strengthening international solidarity efforts to fight for a free Palestine! #
