End Austerity Campaign Officer

The End Austerity Campaign joins women’s rights organisations, environmental groups, economic justice communities, trade unions, human rights defenders, activists, researchers, humanitarian organisations and individuals who work together to end austerity as the universal policy prescription after times of severe crisis, and campaign for more sustainable and just alternatives across the international, regional, national, and local level.

The campaign was founded in 2021 to push back against austerity as the dominating policy framework for economic recovery following the pandemic and to call for just alternatives that fight inequality and achieve gender and climate justice. The End Austerity Campaign was officially launched in September 2022 during the End Austerity Activism Festival along with the campaign website.

The End Austerity campaign is looking to hire a campaign officer to further build its global narrative, along a global South-driven, perspective, and ensure coherence of messaging, advocacy, and communications along these lines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to further develop the global framing and messaging on austerity, such as in relation to a decolonial and feminist approach, including through materials in a popular tone
  • Lead the advancement of unities on a decolonial and feminist approach on austerity across the different activities and throughout the duration of the campaign:
    • Ensure complementarity with regional hubs’ work and messages, including through contributing to the mapping of potential campaign members in regions
    • Support the organizing of the annual End Austerity Activism Festival on a chosen date in 2024
    • With the support of the media and communication officer, ensure alignment of campaign messages in communications outputs (website, social media, among others)
    • Work with the Coordinator in ensuring that campaign’s critiques and demands are reflected in advocacy opportunities from national, regional, and international levels
    • Support with dissemination of campaign materials – coordinate with comms working group
  • Strengthen the campaign by convening members, organising meetings and workshops as well as facilitating opportunities for exchange and joint action between members
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of the campaign activities featured in the project entitled: “Towards ending austerity for a fair, inclusive and just recovery” hosted by the Campaign member IBON International
  • Closely coordinate and work with the coordinator of the project “Towards a Global Movement to End Austerity for the People and the Planet” hosted by the Campaign member Equidad de Genero

Experience and skills

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in the area of policy and advocacy.
  • Experience in working in a public campaign, including in maintaining relations with organisations
  • Working knowledge of a global South framing on economic justice issues such as austerity, colonialism, neoliberalism and debt justice/financing for development/public services
  • Demonstrated experience in developing campaign and policy materials for social movements, civil society, and policymakers
  • Excellent writing skills in English, other languages (Spanish, Arabic, French) a plus
  • Basic skills in design & visuals, social media management, a plus
  • High integrity, excellent conceptual and team relations skills
  • Strategic, action-oriented mindset – highly organized
