In 2022, the IMF launched their strategy to mainstream gender equality in their policies, stating “reducing gender disparities goes hand-in-hand with higher economic growth”. The World Bank is currently implementing its 2016-2023 gender strategy, and are in the process of crafting a new one in line with its Evolution Roadmap.

This session organised by the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development will unpack the IMF-WBG’s gender strategies, and show how these are aligned with IFIs’ neoliberal framework and harm women’s rights.
